The elders group facilitated by Caritas Diocese of Kabgayi is pleased by Caritas’ contributions to their lives.

As her responsibilities manages, Caritas promotes integral human development where people have to live in peace, dignity and healthy. The elderly-group managed and facilitated by Caritas Diocese of Kabgayi are delighted by its help in their progress by advising them about projects creation and management, growth of economy and getting out from loneliness.

At the inauguration of this group, many eldest vulnerable people always came to ask for help like clothes, food and other facilities. Concerning the way of giving the support but really without the other development, Caritas Diocese of Kabgayi combined those people to form a group where they can express themselves, sharing ideas and feelings, where they can create something of value like cultivating, advancement in new creativity ideas and becoming healthier than before.

From the beginning of this elderly-group in 2013, all members from Kabgayi say that they are pleased by how Caritas cares for them. The Chair-person of Kabgayi elder-group NYIRAHABIMANA Anne Marie says that it got them out from poverty, loneliness, lose of hope and they are reaching to life of hope where they increased their ways of socialization, self-reliance, increase in praying abilities and the new ways of saving: “ In five years ago, I started to join this group.  Before that time, I was alone; I did not have health insurance and even incapable of thinking deep how I can improve my progress in development. But after joining it, I am able to get health insurance; my grand child is able to study without losing school fees. Not only that, but I am also always happy because I get many people to speak-within the group, and all chances comes from Caritas Kabgayi’s assistance” Anne Marie says.

These improvements are mentioned by all members because they show their gratitude to Caritas that helps them in everyday life. That help includes ways of combining them together for some conversations, some plays that help them to forget all about struggles and assistance that can help them to survive.

François d’Assise MUNYANGEYO, social assistance in Caritas Kabgayi, and especially in charge of this elderly-group says that it requires passion to heed for them. He says that identification in always necessary in order to know how the follow up is going to be done: “This group started by numbering 13 participants including one man. Day to day, they were increasing and now we are at relieved level. This required more forces including knowing each member and their problems, preparing home visits, standard way of sharing information because it is helpful to be communication skilled, and when we meet we practice moral exercises and stories. This change their way of thinking to ideas that can get them from marginality to optimism” François d’Assise says.

From its establishment in 2013 and its membership of 13 people, today Kabgayi elderly-group is made up of 56 participants between 60 and 86 years. Among them 4 are men. When they meet by the consideration of Caritas, they express their happiness and hope for tomorrow because of help offered to them.
